Do you believe in magic?

Poet W. B. Yeats said, "The world is full of magic things, patiently waiting for our senses to grow sharper." Every day, my camera proves to me that this is true.
I first fell in love with photography in high school precisely because I DO believe in magic--holding something in my hand that let me freeze time felt like precisely that. In the many years since then, my camera has helped train my eye to look for magic all around me, wherever I go. And the more I see, the more I realize that the magic is not in the click of the shutter, but rather in the moments themselves.
I talk a lot with clients in therapy about the fact that we can't always choose the situations we find ourselves in, but we can choose where we'd like to focus our energy and attention. The more we look for the things we'd like to see, the more they appear--not because we wish them into existence, but because we allow our hearts and minds to recognize them.
I'm grateful for two professional roles (📸 & 🧠) that encourage me to focus on things like resilience, connection, hope, and joy. The stuff that magic is made of, my friends. It really is all around us, and because we humans like proof, here you go:
